GET BAPTIZED

Take the Plunge and Publicly Declare Your Faith

Baptism is the first step of obedience for every follower of Jesus. It’s important to remember: the water doesn’t save you—Jesus does. Instead, baptism is a beautiful "outward sign of an inward change."

  • A Picture of New Life: Baptism illustrates Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). When you go under the water, it symbolizes your old life being buried; when you come up, it celebrates your new life as a follower of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).
  • The "Wedding Ring" of Faith: Think of it like a wedding ring. The ring doesn’t make you married; it tells the world that you are married. Similarly, baptism doesn't make you a believer; it announces to the world that you have already chosen to follow Christ. It signifies a relationship rather than forming it.
  • Following Jesus’ Lead: We follow the example set by Jesus Himself, who was baptized to "fulfill all righteousness" (Matthew 3:13-17). He later commanded all His followers to be baptized as they join His mission (Matthew 28:19-20).

At BBC, we baptize by immersion (going fully under the water). This is the pattern we see throughout the New Testament—such as when Philip baptized the Ethiopian official and they both "went down into the water" (Acts 8:38-39). This method best captures the meaning of the original Greek word baptizo, which means "to submerge."
